How to Clean an Oven

I don’t think anyone enjoys cleaning their oven. It’s so hard to reach anything, and when you do, you still can’t get it off! Here’s a few Elf Secrets to make it just a little easier.

SUPPLIES

• oven cleaner (I like Goo Gone brand because it works and is low fume.)

• Dawn Powerwash.

• multipurpose cleaner

• steel wool

• cloths

• newspaper

PROCESS

• SPRAY

  • Lay newspaper on the floor to prevent the oven cleaner from damaging the floor.

  • Spray the inside with oven clenaer. Give it a chance to work while you clean the outside.

• OUTSIDE

  • Remove the knobs (if possible).

  • Use multipurpose cleaner (or Powerwash if it’s greasy) to wipe the outside.

  • A toothbrush will help get in crevices.

  • Use the handle to pull the oven out. The handle is so much easier than trying to wrestle it without any grip.

  • Clean the sides, cupboards, wall and floor behind the oven.

  • Slide the oven back in place.

• INSIDE

  • Remove the racks and set aside.

  • Use steel wool to scrape the oven walls, top and floor. things should come off pretty well.

  • Rinse with a cloth so you can see what’s loose and what’s stuck.

  • Reapply cleaner and scrape some more.

  • Don’t forget to clean in the bottom drawer

• RACKS

  • Use steel wool to scrape the racks.

  • A quick brush along each wire should do the trick.

• FINAL

  • Give things one final buff to remove any residue or streaks.

  • Reinstall the racks and get back to life, with a clean oven.
